It always fascinates me that when on vacations I tend to eat what I want, but flare up less lol. I remember going to my urologist and him asking me do you ever have no symptoms? I thought hard and then I said yes! I almost had no symptoms when I was in Egypt… he seemed curious as to why that was but didn’t really look into it.

I think I know why that is. Stress is the number one culprit when it comes to my Interstitial Cystitis. When I am on vacation I am not thinking about deadlines, I am not thinking about my burning bladder, I am thinking about what’s around me and enjoying every bit of it. Thank YOU Parasympathetic nervous system.

Anyway enough yapping and let’s talk food! Although I “cheat” when I travel, my cheat meals are usually all organic and vegan lol. So to some people that’s not cheating but for me it is because I try to avoid “faux” meats as they have gluten, bread, and sugar. But I like to live it up when I am on vacay and treat myself!

So without further ado if you are a vegan or someone who likes to keep it organic in Philly these are definitely the best spots!

Day 1

Brunch

Front Street Café

This was the first place we hit up as soon as we arrived. Locally sourced, sustainable, organic, and suitable for everyone! Whether you are a vegetarian, flexitarian, gluten-free, or a vegan there is something for you. The place is huge and the staff were super friendly! We loved it so much we went there twice.

These “Pancakes” Are made with Kale Juice and are gluten free! SO good!

Dinner

Hip City Veg

Ziggy Burger & Fried Chikun Burger

What I love about this place is that although it’s a fast food restaurant. Everything they use is organic and ethically sourced. As well I didn’t feel heavy after eating there which I usually would. The guy who served us was the sweetest! (see pic below :D)

Day 2

Breakfast

Miss Rachel’s Pantry

OH man! Everything about this place made me melt. From the vintage décor to the old school fridge to the AMAZING FOOD. By far one of the best vegan cheeses I have ever had! The pizza bagel with smoked beet pepperoni was amazing, the grilled mac and cheese was superb, the French toast was Okay it had way too much maple syrup for my liking and I wish I got the one with the mascropone cheese :( but there is always next time!

Is this real chicken? No seriously what thee!! The chicken steak was too real! Again love that all their food is organic and their hand cut fries damnnnn! Their ice cream was super good as well because it wasn’t too sugary and I appreciate treats that aren’t full of sugar!

V Street

We barely made it! Got in 8 mins before the kitchen closed and I got their mushroom ramen. This place is for you if you like a spin on different “ethnic” food. I didn’t enjoy the Ramen to be honest, it was waaay too spicy for me and I love spicy food. My lips were burning and my gums started swelling. My partner really liked it though!

The soft serve was good though! It was a pina colada with pineapple upside down cake. Too good!

Day 3

Repeated Hip City Veg and Front Street Café because I needed more!!

This time we got wedges, Veggie hash and a an acai bowl for me :).

Can’t forget Dottie’s Doughnuts! I really wanted the Cannoli doughnut but they were out :(! However, the Oreo doughnut and the Boston cream were amazing so I guess it was a good day after all!

 

IMG_8186(2)If we had more time! I would have liked to eat at blackbird pizzeria, vedge, Franklin’s Fountains and Soy Cafe.

Other than that I am glad I got to eat at those places. I would highly recommend them if you are a vegan foodie, or just a foodie in general! Ethically sourced and delicious!
